HUMAN ERROR
book release ⟡
I have some non-music-related news to share.
The quiet lull of winter was mostly focussed on recovery but I’m hoping to start working gradually toward a life again. Last year was absolute hell for me and I want real meaningful change going forward. I wanted to channel all of the distress into something bright and begin to put streams of ideas into action - ones that just rattle around in my head - seem out of reach or like a pipe dream.
That has materialised in the form of my first ever self-published book ‘Human Error’. I wanted this archive to read like a sketchbook, it’s a compilation of drawings spanning five years; work depicting dissociation, imagined landscapes in unreality and states of psychosis. I began making a more conscious effort of ritualistic drawing - challenging my imagination and inner eye through practice back in 2020 - through battles with addiction and relapses, chronic pain, queer identity and derealisation - putting pen to paper became a real saving grace for me many times.
‘Human Error is a labour of love made in the spirit of analogue revival. A collection of purificative artworks spanning five years from my sketchbooks that explore the human condition and untethered detachment from reality and body.’ The foreward opens with a quote I made a note to come back to from a beautiful novel by Andrew Holleran I read a couple of years back: [Dancer from the Dance, 1978]
This is the first of many endeavours for 2026 but it’s one I am incredibly proud to share with you all - you can get your signed copy here: HUMAN ERROR as well as a new collection of 5” x 7” prints - everything was made using recycled materials and ships worldwide. If you purchase and follow on Bandcamp you will get a free digital download of ‘Island Perimeter’ in its entirety - Derek x
